George J. Sowden
George Sowden ha studiato architettura al Gloucester College of Art di Cheltenham, in Inghilterra.
Negli anni '60 si trasferisce a Milano e nel 1970 inizia a collaborare, come consulente, con Olivetti, il rinomato produttore italiano di macchine per ufficio, computer e mobili per ufficio. Questo lungo rapporto con Olivetti è durato 20 anni.
Negli anni '70, Sowden ha anche lavorato nel cuore del movimento del design radicale italiano che gli ha permesso, nel 1981, di diventare un membro fondatore di Memphis, un movimento d'avanguardia che ha definito il movimento post-moderno.
Nello stesso anno (1981) fonda il proprio studio, Sowden Design. Lo studio è ancora attivo e lavora in vari campi del design in tutto il mondo.
George Sowden studied architecture at Gloucester College of Art in Cheltenham, England.
In the 1960s he moved to Milan and in 1970 began collaborating, as a consultant, with Olivetti, the renowned Italian manufacturer of office machinery, computers and office furniture. This long relationship with Olivetti lasted 20 years.
In the 1970s, Sowden also worked at the heart of the Italian, radical design movement which enabled him, in 1981, to become a founding member of Memphis, an avant-garde movement that defined the post-modern movement.
In the same year (1981) he founded his own studio, Sowden Design. The studio is still running and works in various design fields worldwide.
