James Irvine
Nato a Londra, James Irvine si è laureato nel 1984 al Royal College of Art di Londra. Nello stesso anno si trasferisce a Milano.
Dal 1984 al 1992 è stato consulente di design per lo studio di progettazione Olivetti Milano, sotto la direzione di Michele De Lucchi ed Ettore Sottsass. Nel 1987 ha lavorato per un anno presso il Toshiba Design Center di Tokyo. Ritorna a Milano nel 1988 e apre il suo studio privato di design.
I suoi primi clienti furono Cappellini e SCP. Dal 1993 al 1997, parallelamente al suo studio privato, è stato socio di Sottsass Associati, responsabile del gruppo di disegno industriale dello studio.
Nel 2004 è stato ospite d'onore alla fiera Interieur di Kortrijk ed è stato anche eletto Royal Designer for Industry dalla Royal Society of Arts di Londra. Nel 2007 gli è stato conferito un dottorato onorario in design dalla Kingston University.
Born in London, James Irvine graduated in 1984 from the Royal College of Art, London. In the same year he moved to Milan.
From 1984 to 1992, he was a design consultant for Olivetti design studio Milan, under the direction of Michele De Lucchi and Ettore Sottsass. In 1987 he worked for one year at the Toshiba Design Centre in Tokyo. He returned to Milan in 1988 and opened his private design studio.
His first clientes were Cappellini and SCP. From 1993 to 1997, in parallel to his private studio, he was a partner of Sottsass Associati, responsable for the studio’s industrial design group.
In 2004 he was the guest of honour at the fair Interieur in Kortrijk and was also elected Royal Designer for Industry by the Royal Society of Arts in London. In 2007 he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Design from Kingston University.
